JOB TITLE SUMMARY

Job Title: Equipment Specialist, Fabrication / Studio / Proctor, Student Employee

Job weekly hours:  20 Hours

Job week assignment: 36

Pay Rate: $10.50 an hour

Work Cycle: August 15th - May 15th

Campus Location: St. Charles

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Summary

Oversee and train individuals in the use of specialized, technical, and/or dangerous equipment

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

Job Responsibilities

  • Experience with a variety of art related media and equipment, including woodworking, metalworking, and ceramics is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of power and hand tools related to art creation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to create a positive and safe learning environment.
  • Ability to keep accurate building sign-in and Sign-out data.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other computer software/databases is preferred.
  • Ability to make responsible decisions
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend assignments
  • Survey, monitor and document conditions within building.
  • Must have manual dexterity and the patience of a craftsperson. 
  • Assist Studio Technician with ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local health and safety requirements within Studio East
  • monitor environmental compliance issues and provide assistance with workplace safety matters
  • Assist with maintaining and making available: EHS, SDS files and records;
  • Assist students with day-to-day operations of equipment.
  • Assist with regular maintenance, possibly including minor repairs of tools and equipment.
  • Assist with maintaining inventory of departmental equipment and ordering supplies as needed.
  • Oversee cleanliness and organization of studio areas.
  • Knowledge and understanding of institutional goals, objectives, policies, and procedures
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Administrative and Operational Duties

  • Must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently and prioritize the positions daily schedule. 
  • Must be detail oriented and able to interact with faculty, staff and the general student population in a polite and courteous manner. 
  • Assist in the upkeep of Inventories, SDS sheets and safety checkoff lists.
  • Ability to keep accurate building sign-in and Sign-out data.

Communication

  • Must be detail oriented and able to interact with faculty, staff members and the general student population in a polite and courteous manner.

  • Support the mission of the university and serve as an ambassador of the university.

Required Qualifications – Required qualifications to effectively perform the job.  An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.  (Additional requirements may be designated by position.)

  • Experience with a variety of art related media and equipment, including woodworking, metalworking, and ceramics is preferred

  • Working knowledge of power and hand tools related to art creation
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to create a positive and safe learning environment; and with individuals ranging from beginner-to-expert
  • Ability to make responsible decisions; lift/carry up to 50 lbs.; maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend assignments
  • Currently Enrolled in classes at Lindenwood University.
  • Must be in good standing with the university; Academically, Socially, and Financially.

Work Environment – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • Individuals whom are particularly susceptible to dust should be aware that the Fabrication Studios are inevitably dusty environments.
    • Individuals who have known wood allergies should not apply.

  • Must be comfortable lifting heavy equipment (up to 50lbs.)
    • While performing the duties of this job, the Sculpture Technician is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; climb ladders; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The worker must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color visions, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Must also be physically capable of operating a motor vehicle and have a current driver’s license.
