WHAT YOU'LL DO
The Sr. Database Engineer will play a critical role in driving next generational development of these software products, likely collaborating in successful multi-million dollar, multi-year investments. Under general guidance from the IT Database Hosting Manager, this role will be at the center of database design, build, maintain, and run efforts. Key activities will include: collaborate with development teams and vendors to influence database infrastructure & architecture design (ensuring security, flexibility, scalability, and performance); implement, operate, and optimize database infrastructure and (when required) code to meet service level agreements (SLAs); as well as communicate database infrastructure choices and standards to the rest of the engineering team.

YOU BRING (EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS)
  • BS/BA degree in computer science or related field; or business administration or mathematics with experience in database architecture, data analysis, and database maintenance and support
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the database engineering field
    • Deep understanding of relational database theory
    • Proficient in all aspects of Database Management and Maintenance
      • Installation, Patching, Tuning (index strategies), Backup and Restore, etc.
    • Proficient in cloud deployments (AWS, Google, or Azure)
    • Proficient in ANSI SQL and statement tuning, MS T-SQL, and PowerShell scripting
  • Experience in the following fields, technologies and tools:
    • Relational database design and data security
    • AWS, Google, or Azure data platform offerings
    • MS SQL Server (2012 and above) and T-SQL  (reporting, integration, and analysis services)
    • Reporting, Integration, Analysis Services (SSRS & SSIS), Power BI
  • Desirable (but not required):
    • Microsoft Certified
    • Microsoft replication knowledge & experience
    • Linux shell bash/ korn shell scripting
    • Quest Litespeed
    •  MySQL, Hierarchical, NoSQL databases, Big data (Hadoop, Spark)

  • Develop strategies for data integration, backup and recovery, and implementation of databases cloud environments (AWS/Google/Azure).
  • Perform system analysis on databases, resolve server performance, poor performing queries, capacity issues, backup and recovery issues and data integration issues as necessary.
  • When confronted with technical challenges, must find creative, economical, and elegant engineering solutions.
  • Perform/automate database installs, upgrades and patches.
  • Work with third-part vendors to orchestrate database operations and project work.
  • Write and maintain documentation.

  • Mentors and directs other more junior members of the team
