WHAT YOU'LL DO
We are seeking the motivated and passionate candidate who will be our next Technical Program Lead (TPL) for Retail Catalyst, based in Chicago, IL. In collaboration with product managers, BCG partners, topic experts, and data architects, the TPL will provide program oversight for the Retail Catalyst suite of applications.

Catalyst is the E2E / enterprise grade, cloud-based, Big Data analytics platform that powers the analytical workflows and algorithms developed by BCG’s Retail Sector. These applications are critical to our growth plan, ability to scale, and to the success of our case teams. BCG has made multimillion-dollar investments to create Flagship products that complement our consulting offerings.

YOU BRING (EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS)
The TPL needs…
  • 5-7+ years’ experience in application / software development (including open source)
  • Strong understanding of Big Data and analytics technologies
  • Experience with cloud computing
  • Strong understanding of IT roadmaps and solution architecture
  • Ability to lead and mentor on- / offshore development teams using Agile software delivery processes
  • The ability to travel, depending on project requirements
  • A BS/BA degree in software engineering, computer science, mathematics, or related field
  • Master’s (or other advanced) degree in engineering or business strongly preferred  
Our ideal candidate also knows their way around…
  • End-to-end solution design (database systems, integration architecture, visualization / analytics platforms, etc.)
  • Google Cloud Platform
  • SQL and PostgreSQL
  • Agile engineering development
  • Maintaining multiple work streams across data sourcing, data preparation, development, testing, and software delivery
  • DataIKU / Spark / Hadoop / Google Big Query strongly preferred

  • Delivery-minded and deadline-focused, ready to go the extra mile and get creative in delivering on time and within budget
  • Self-motivated, with a desire to take initiative and a proactive approach to problem solving
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - able to adjust approach to effectively interact at all organizational and technical levels
  • Experience working successfully within a complex matrix structured organization
  • Ability to understand and manage complex reporting relationships and incorporate multiple labor laws and cultures
  • Ability and willingness to give and receive honest, balanced feedback
  • Fluent written and spoken English (other languages are desirable)

  • Business Requirements and Analysis
    • Collaborate with key stakeholders to understand business needs and requirements
    • Research technical / non-technical solutions, and make recommendations for accelerating the development and enhancement of products
    • Conduct technology evaluations to understand features and alignment with requirements 
  • Technical Design Specifications
    • Facilitate the gathering, prioritizing, and documentation of technical requirements
    • Collaborate on creating software architecture, design, and specification documentation
    • Develop prototypes for demonstration and testing purposes
    • Lead creation of operational processes, service level agreements and interface requirements 
  • Software Development Technical Leadership
    • Oversee all aspects of project execution as the Agile Scrum Master
    • Use a lean and Agile approach to product development and delivery
    • Prioritize customer feedback, bug fixes, and the feature roadmap for rapid product iteration 
  • Product Delivery and Support Management
    • Support communication and alignment with clients for product deployment
    • Support development and implementation of launch plans to roll out product
    • Identify, research, and resolve system technical and/or non-technical problems
